EICMA by brand

Have we beaten EICMA to death yet? Maybe, but even we find the myriad of new bikes a little hard to digest so we thought we’d wrap things up with a piece putting all the new and exciting releases together by brand.

Hopefully all the product listed below will come to Canada next year, though sadly the new Benelli’s will likely not. We’ll keep you updated as they are confirmed and any pricing info we can get. We’ll also be updating our Buyer’s Guide with the new 2016s once we get them, so stay tuned!

Aprilia

With race teams in World Superbike and Moto GP it’s unfathomable why Aprilia does not have a greater presence in Canada. Though we were hoping for more from the Italian brand at EICMA they did impress with this new RSV-4 that pulls from the firm’s extensive racing experience to bring you a race-ready bike. Let’s see what the final price tag is before we get too excited, but we’re assuming it’ll be a lot more real world than Honda’s disastrous RC211 thingy.

Benelli

Maybe we should be keeping this for an “Unobtanium bikes of EICMA” piece as the Chinese-owned Italian brand is no longer officially imported into Canada. But just when it looked like it was doomed for the garbage bin of irrelevance, up pops a new line of bikes geared around a new 500 cc twin motor.

The TRK502 is the adventure version and it certainly looks the part too. Hopefully they will have the quality up to par and have completed the testing to ensure that all the parts work well together. But not happy with just one, Benelli also showed off its Leoncino scrambler, using the same motor but in sweet standard/scrambler formats. Nice.

Time for some importer in Canada to pick up the phone and become Benelli Canada?

BMW

We already knew that the Scrambler was coming but this is the official unveil of the RNineT based bike. It’s an easy styling redesign for the suits at BMW, but you never know if they’ll get the styling right or not. We’d say that they hit this one squarely on the head!

There’s also some updates to the C650 scooter, that you can see some shots of below. The F700 and F800 GS lineup got some cosmetic changes, but that was all. Beemer fans will have to continue to wait for that parallel twin to get its update.

Ducati

We’d been teased a lot about a whole load of upcoming new models by Ducati, and EICMA saw them all. The big two are the new 959 Panigale superbike and the X-Diavel, the firm’s more cruisery version of the Diavel.

A bit of a surprise announcement was a more off-road orientated Multistrada with wire wheels and a bash plate. Is this a serious contender to BMW’s R1200GS or just a Multistrada with wire wheels?

Other updates include a new 400 cc Scrambler that, judging by the young hip people on the promo video, is a move by Ducati to further grab that market that they have done so well with by the original 800 Scramble. And let’s not forget the Hyperstrada/motards, that get engine upgrades.

Honda

Nothing new-new for Honda this year. They rolled out the Africa Twin and some tweaks (specifically the CB500F that gets a much improved makeover), but the big news was with the company’s concept bikes.

Early on in the show the City Adventure caught our attention as the not-for-Canada Integra scooter gets a decidedly adventure makeover. Do you want an adventure bike with feet-forward riding and no tank to grip to when things get rough? Probably not, but it definitely looks the part.

And then there’s the Six50 and CB4. Both styling exercises courtesy of Honda Europe, the Six50 takes the CBR650F platform and turns into a very sexy and attention grabbing scrambler – even if a four cylinder is not the most obvious choice for such a vehicle. The CB4 takes the same platform and makes a retro-esque machine with a tip of the hat to the Honda CB400/4.

Husqvarna

We weren’t expecting much from Husqvarna and they only delivered one new model but it had the CMG staff gasping. The new 701 Vitpilen is so different in its styling, so minimalist and such a bold statement (but one that actually works), we hope that the final production version is as close to this as possible.

Kawasaki

Err. Not a big show for Kawasaki this year, with a sketch of a bike that they’re thinking about and a special Winter edition of the ZX-10R. Winter edition? Exactly.

They did confirm they’re continuing research into more supercharged motors. However, it would have been nice to have a little more information on where they’re headed.

KTM

Nothing brand spanking from KTM but they did do a significant redesign on the 690 Duke (and are claiming it to be the world’s most powerful thumper as a result) as well as shod the 1290 Superduke with touring clothes.

Moto Guzzi

Expanding on its 1400 California base, Guzzi put into production the MGX21 that was originally shown as a concept last year. It’s essentially a bagger with a lot of carbon fibre parts and funky styling. If it handles and goes as well as the California, they may have a winner.

Guzzi continue to develop it V7 line with the addition of a well executed scrambler (of course) called the Stonello and have also introduced a bigger V9 line (850 cc) which includes the Bobber (big fat front wheel and a lot of black) and the Roamer (more classically styled).

MV Agusta

The Italian company seems to be hitting its stride with the successful Tourismo, so we were hoping for a little more than a slightly gaudy Lewis Hamilton edition Dragster (three confirmed for Canada) and a Brutale revamp that saw a power drop …

Suzuki

Suzuki has also relied on updates but they did pick a couple of good ones. And what better than to revive the very popular SV650 that got pushed to the side somewhat when it became the Gladius. It’s back to basics with a thorough update, which is just what it needed.

Talking of which, the GSX-R1000 got a similar treatment to pull it up from the bottom of the litre superbike pile with variable valve timing and traction control. Shame about the styling, but one step at a time.

Triumph

Having cleverly pulled the trigger on the new Bonneville collection prior to EICMA, thereby feeding the expectant media and getting all the limelight to boot, Triumph’s big EICMA show was Charlie Boorman who happened to come with a new Tiger 1200. Well, technically speaking six new Tigers. Okay six variations, making an unfortunate alphabet soup which seemingly no-one knows what is what. Even Triumph.

Oh, and they also gave some more info on the new Speed Triple that had kinda been spilled before the show but is always worthy of a good look at.

Victory

Well we were hoping for a sport bike based on the company’s Pike Peak 156 project. Instead we got the ‘Ignition Concept’ which is kinda there, but not quite. The good news is that the company stated that the sporty version should be out soon too.

Yamaha

Did you want a naked R1? The MT-10 is just that bike with more than a little S1000R styling in it. And then there’s the XSR 900 that runs with a Roland Sands project and makes it into reality. Yamaha says it’s a retro version of their FZ-09 naked bike.
