Racer Grant Wagstaff saw some hot times at the Isle of Man TT, but we’re not talking about scorching laps.
Wagstaff stopped for fuel in the Supersport 2 race, but the crew made a mistake when gassing him up, sending him and his bike into flames. Wagstaff wasn’t seriously injured, but a mechanic ended up in hospital overnight due to burns.
It amazes me that there is not a person standing there with a fire extinguisher ready. While watching ChumpCar races at Shannonville they had to have a person in a fire suit standing by at the ready whenever fuel was put into the car on pit lane. A few teams were reprimanded when the person fueling and the person standing by with the extinguisher were not following procedure.
It does boggle one’s mind.
