We’ve yet to see official confirmation of this, but there are plenty of rumours swirling around that name Maverick Vinales a member of Suzuki’s factory team in 2015.
Even MotoGP’s press relations crew didn’t have official confirmation, but last weekend they were reporting gossip (originating from German mag Speedweek) that had Vinales moving up to the big show on a three-year contract. Currently, he’s sitting in third place in the Moto2 championship for the Paginas Amarillas HP 40 team. He has 120 points to series leader Esteve Rabat’s 170 points.
It’s unsure who else Suzuki will sign for the other spot on their factory team. Some watchers speculated Randy DePuniet was hoping he’d get that seat, after putting in his time as a factory tester, but if that deal has been inked, we haven’t heard of it. The Euro mags all seem to think Aleix Espargaro will get the nod. He’s in sixth overall in the standings right now, earning 77 points on his Forward Yamaha and impressing plenty of onlookers with some pretty decent races.
Why is it that whenever I see ‘Aleix Espargaro’, I immediately think ‘Alex Asparagus’….?
I think that this would be a serious mistake. He’s quick, but he’d do well to do his rounds in the lower classes to develop his skills.
