If you were a motorcycle fan in the 1980s, you may be fortunate (or unfortunate  – depends on your perspective) enough to remember that decade’s short-lived turbo craze. Now, Suzuki looks like they might be trying to kick off a revival.

This week, Suzuki released a photo of a bike they plan to unveil at the Tokyo Motor Show next month. What it lacks in branding (the concept is dubbed the Suzuki Recursion), it makes up for in promise. Apparently, the machine is based around a 588 cc water-cooled twin, with a turbocharger. According to Cycle World, the bike will make 100 hp at 8000 rpm, with peak torque (74 ft-lb) at 4500 rpm. Impressive!

It’s also impressive to see that, judging by the photo, the bike’s bodywork wasn’t designed by a 14-year-old Transformers fan, like so many other machines of late. It’s actually a fairly decent looking naked bike, and there are precious few of those coming out of Japan these days.

Still, it’s just a concept machine, and one that hasn’t been completely unveiled yet. Wait until Nov. 23, and we should have more details.

Suzuki’s also exploring the world of electric motorcycles; they’re also teasing another concept bike, the EXTRIGGER. Remember, when we did the Grom review, how we said there was no competition coming from Japan? Well, this looks like it could be aimed at taking Grom sales. It’s got an aluminum frame, USD forks, disc brakes … and of course, it’ll be pretty cheap to run (not that the Grom was exactly gas-thirsty).

The EXTRIGGER is based around the electric motor from the e-Let battery scooter Suzuki already makes, so it’s quite possible we’ll see this in production. And, with that no-emissions powerplant, this thing could become a favourite of indoor stunt riders everywhere.

  1. I wouldn’t get too excited, didn’t the concept b-king have a supercharger ? The one released had a re-tuned Hayabusa engine if I recall.

    • Yeah… think I’ve got your back on that one.
      Might wish to drop or change a couple of
      things, but all in all, it is eye-candy.

      • I think the best part is that it doesn’t look like a Transformer/insect-wannabe. The bars are also the right height for a sporty seating position that won’t kill you after 40 minutes in the saddle.

  2. It sure looks to me like I could quite easily have one of those EXTRIGGER’S in my stable by the means of a 3-D printer. lol
