Maybe there’s something about the V-twin engine?
Just after we heard about Harley-Davidson’s financial growth in 2011, Ducati North America has also released some sales numbers for the first half of 2011 – and they’re fantastic.
While Harley was happy with single-digit percentage growth in 2011’s second quarter, Ducati North America saw a whopping 61 per cent growth in sales over 2010’s second quarter. In the first six months of 2011, sales are up 63 per cent.
Those numbers amount to 5200 motorcycles sold in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. The wildly popular Diavel is certainly responsible for a lot of that growth, but the Multistrada 1200, 848 EVO Superbike, and Monster 796 have also sold very well. The company is also excited about the potential sales growth with the Monster 1100 EVO’s summer release.
Of course, in the grand scheme of things, 5200 motorcycles is nothing compared to overseas sales in places like India, where many companies could view that as a bad weekend’s sales. But for the North American market, this is pretty respectable growth, and hopefully a sign that the industry is recovering.
