Canadian Superbike champ Jordan Szoke has finished second in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy standings.

When BMW pulled out of World Superbike racing, they replaced their WSB program with funding for the world’s top privateers running BMW machinery. Privateers from national superbike series around the world, or prestigious roadraces like the Isle of Man TT, have their results compared. The BMW privateer who does the best wins the award, which was handed out last week in a gala gathering riders from around the globe.

This year, the top privateer is Matthieu Lussiana, who won 20,000 Euros for his first-place finish in the Brazilian Moto 1000 GP series. He won seven of the series’ nine races, finishing second in the other two.

That means Szoke, who swept CSBK this past year, winning all seven racers, was kept out of the win by sheer bad luck. The way the points are structured, Szoke was unable to rack up as many points as Lussiana — he had 429.67 points to Lussiana’s 436.69. Still, Szoke will take home some hardware and a cheque, which is a nice way for BMW to thank him for his hard work aboard their motorcycle.

Riders from 19 different national and international series were represented in this year’s Motorrad Race Trophy series.
