The Canadian Superbike roadracing series wraps up for 2022 with a packed race weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (aka Mosport).
Going into the final weekend, we have races both Saturday (August 13) and Sunday, with the Pro Superbike class running two races on Sunday (August 14), making for a triple-header in that class! Ben Young (the 2019 champion) currently holds a 31-point lead over 2021 champ Alex Dumas in the standings. Dumas could win all three races this weekend, and he’d still have to have some luck go his way to take the championship.
To make things more interesting, we understand Kenny Riedmann is going to suit up and ride the second bike for Ben Young’s team, meaning this weekend could be the stiffest competition Dumas has seen this year. No word on whether Jordan Szoke might also be returning, but we have not seen any indication that’s happening. It appears Tomas Casas will finally return to the track, after missing the first few races as he recovered from pre-season injury. Overall, expect this coming weekend to be the strongest racing we’ve seen yet this summer, maybe the most competitive since before COVID-19 started messing things up.
In the Pro Sport Bike series, Trevor Dion has put up a very convincing show so far this year; however, David MacKay is still only 21 points back, and if Dion has mechanical trouble or otherwise earns a DNF, MacKay could snipe this year’s title.
You can see the standings for all CSBK series here, if you’re curious about the battles in the amateur series. The weekend schedule for Canadian CTMP is here; note that the Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival will host a movie screening at the track on the night of Sunday the 13th, and of course, camping is recommended for the full race weekend experience!
