Intermot: Ducati’s all-new Supersport

It may be called the SuperSport, but Ducati’s newest motorcycle is a toned-down sport bike intended to make motorcycling more accessible and comfortable. It’s the FZ of the Panigale family.

Powered by a twin-cylinder, 937 cc Testastretta 11° engine, the SuperSport makes a very respectable 113 hp and 71 lbs.-ft. of torque that is apparently smooth and linear through the revs before peaking at 6,500 rpm.

Ducati says this is a bike “for those eager to ride sports-style on everyday roads,” and calls it fun and versatile. “A lean and mean road machine, the SuperSport has an approachable feel thanks to easy handling, the confidence-inspiring Ducati Safety Pack (ABS Bosch + Ducati Traction Control), the awesome price-quality ratio of the equipment and the long maintenance intervals.”

05-supersport-sThere are three customizable electronic riding modes, Sport, Touring, and Urban. Wet weight is around 210 kg. The windscreen is height-adjustable in two different positions, with 50 mm of travel, and panniers are available. Instrumentation is all LED. Tires are Pirelli Diablo Rosso III, 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear.

There’ll also be a sportier version available, called the SuperSport S. It will have fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, the Ducati Quick Shift up/down system and a rear seat cover: the latter are also available as accessories for the SuperSport.

There’s no word on price yet, but it’ll be a fair bit less expensive than the cheapest Panigale, with lots of its looks. Check out these pictures and see what you think.

    • It does, also weights are the same (they’re both heavy…) they have about the same power and VFR (with current Honda discount) is 4K cheaper than the S model.

But the Ducati has drive by wire, riding modes, better brakes, better suspensions and IMO looks better.

both have heated grips and lack cruise control

The VFR has a centerstand and hard bags

If Honda did make a more modern VFR I’d be very interested.
