Czech GP is a go, despite rumours

After ticket sales for the Czech GP were temporarily suspended recently, the gossip started: This year’s Brno race wasn’t going to happen. But according to MotoGP.com, that’s not true – the race is going ahead.

The official line is that the hitch came as a result of government funding, or lack thereof. The MotoGP race was supposed to be supported partly by public funding in 2014 and 2015, but the Automotodrom track says they didn’t get the money. As a result, the track asked MotoGP organizers if they would consider canceling the round, but MotoGP officials recommended against it.

But, if the money doesn’t come through for 2016 by August 16 of this year, MotoGP says, the event will indeed be canceled – ending a 50-year history at the European track.
