What do Jakub Smrz, Sylvain Guintoli, and Maxime Berger have in common?

The World Superbike racers all started the season with Liberty Racing, and they’ve all been let go, leaving Brett McCormick as the only remaining rider who’s been with the team from the season’s start (they picked up Italian rider Lorenzo Lanzi to replace Jakub Smrz).

The team cut Maxime Berger loose this week, citing “breach of contract.” And so the fun continues.

Liberty’s news release says the team is “glancing at the next season,” meaning, we assume, that they’re looking ahead. But by now, you’d think many riders would be wary of signing with them. Thankfully, it seems to be working out well for McCormick, as the team consistently seems to say they’re sticking with him.

  1. Liberty Effenberg Racing is a disaster. Rather obvious all season long.
I can’t believe they have kept their sponsors.

Still cannot figure out why McCormick is still there, but after he announced
he was good to go and the team stated that Brett should sit another race
or two, told me a lot about management and finances.

Still not sold on McCormick, but Smrz was magic. Talent does not seem to
matter much with these guys. I feel Brett should attempt Moto2 next season.
