Lots of good sprint racing was covered in gloom at Mosport last weekend as CMG regulars Richard Perrin and Steve Bond both ended up in hospital, as did VRRA Mosport track record holder Brian Henderson.

Henderson was out of racing for the weekend with a concussion and a hospital overnight, Bondo is home with a fractured scapula, but Perrin is in Sunnybrooke Hospital in Toronto suffering from severe spinal injuries after a horrifying 240 km tank-slapper and collision with a concrete wall.

Surgery was "successful" but it’ll be some time before we’ll know exactly what that means.

Not a good weekend at "the big track." Shame, really, because with perfect hot and sunny racing weather, a good turnout of entries (including 41 teams for the endurance race that ended up being cancelled after ambulance delays for Perrin’s and Henderson’s crashes) and what was probably a record crowd, everything else was great.

  1. Just read about your off Richard. A speedy recovery to you sir. Don’t let the hospital grub wear you down!

    Mr Bond…. Heal quick.

    Cheers,

    David and Lisa Leonty

  2. No worries. “Man Mountain Richard,” the only human being I’ve ever seen who was strong enough to hold up an 1100 Katana that was listing at 45 degrees and NOT drop it, only let that spinal injury into his body so that he could f— with it for awhile. When he gets bored, he’ll evict it and be back to filling up doorways (and blocking out the sun).

  3. Sorry to hear about your incident Richard. As with many here, I work in the downtown core of Toronto. If there’s anything that you needjust shout.

  4. Richard;

    Should you find there’s something you need, while you’re ‘tied down’ let me know…

    Maybe I can sneak you a burger or a sub or something…

    I’m 30mins away from Sunnybrook by subway.

  5. I’ve got a perfectly functional brain and fingers, and would lke to thank everyone for their help. Extent of spinal injuries will take a while to establish, in the mean time I’m happy and hopeful. Sorry to hear about the others.

  6. Best to all for a speedy recovery.

    Richard or friends/family – anything I can help with in Ottawa let me know, 613-794-8929. I mean anything; I live pretty close by.

  7. If anyone has info on Richard’s condition could you please email at editor at cmgonline dot com????

    Thanks in advance.

    Rob
