Kawasaki U.S. has announced that
20-year-old Welsh sensation Chaz Davies will join Daytona 200 winner
Steve Rapp on the Attack Kawasaki team for the 2008 AMA Superbike
Championship Series, riding ZX-6Rs in both the Supersport and Formula
Xtreme classes.
Despite his age, Davies has already
carded five seasons on the Grand Prix circuit in the 125 and 250 cc
classes, plus last year competed in the U.S. with the Celtic Racing
team, earning a sixth in the F-X class.
His results and poise ended
up with him getting two wild-card rides with the Ducati Moto GP team,
at Laguna Seca and Valencia, where he further impressed. Discussions
with Ducati led to negotiations over a testing role with the Moto GP
team for 2008, but the race situation at Attack Kawasaki (basically a
factory-aided privateer team) won out.
His team-mate Steve Rapp will be on his
second year with Attack after an impressive 2007 where he won the
Daytona 200 and finished a close second in the F-X class, plus fourth
in the Supersport class.
