About the event

The Dacre Dualsport Challenge has its roots in the Paris-Dacre event, itself a puny tribute to the Paris-Dakar rally that once ran through Europe and Africa, and now takes place in South America.

After arriving Friday night (location is still to be announced), riders must go through bike inspection, registration, and all those other fun aspects of a dual sport ride. Then Saturday, the ride will kick off, taking them through approximately 800 km of trails, stopping in Kinmount for lunch and ending the day in Dacre. The awards banquet is Sunday.

This is a tough event — riders must sign up as members of teams, for safety. The organizers do have a sweep, but the challenge is trying to finish the thing – CMG tried three times before finally throwing in the towel.

For more details on scoring, mechanical standards, required equipment, visit the Challenge’s website here. Although the Challenge has traditionally favoured enduro-style bikes, this year the organizers have also introduced a separate ADV class, with routing suitable for larger bikes, and slightly different rules (no sweeps, either!).

Cost is $250, and comes with a commemorative T-shirt, large decal for headlight mask, Friday supper, camping at start area, a light breakfast and lunch on Saturday and camping at Dacre with a BBQ supper. Sunday offers a buffet breakfast and a prize table.
