The new totally-not-a-Harley-Davidson is here. Well not quite, but we do have specs for the LiveWire S2 Del Mar, ahead of its release later this year.
The important numbers you need to know: The S2 Del Mar is supposed to have 113 miles (182 km) of range at urban speeds, or a range of 43 miles (69 km) at highway speed of 70 mph (112 km/h). Combined, the range works out to between 62-70 miles of mixed riding (100-112 km), depending what speeds you’re running on the highway and no doubt some other factors.
That range comes from a 10.5 kWh battery, which recharges from a J1772 plug. At Level 1 charging, it’ll recharge from 20 to 80 percent over 5.9 hours, or from zero to 100 percent over 8.4 hours. At Level 2 charging, it’ll go from 20 to 80 percent over 78 minutes, or zero to 100 percent over 142 minutes.
As for the electric motor itself: LiveWire says it makes 194 lb-ft of torque, and the equivalent of 84 hp. That sounds like plenty of get-up-and-go. It tops out at 166 km/h, and will go 0-60 mph in only three seconds.
The LiveWire S2 Del Mar weighs 436 lb in running order. Of course, with no gas on-board, “wet weight” is not really a factor here.
It’s important to note that all these specs are still subject to some manner of change. We should also remember most of these specs are a bit behind the LiveWire One, which was LiveWire’s first electric motorcycle, a direct descendant of the Harley-Davidson LiveWire. The S2 Del Mar has a smaller battery, doesn’t recharge as quickly, and doesn’t have quite as much muscle. However, it’s also quite a bit lighter, and more importantly, less expensive.
How much less expensive? Uh, we aren’t sure, as LiveWire hasn’t done much promotion for the bike in Canada, and doesn’t even list it on the Canadian website yet. However, we’d expect a price in the $20,000 CAD, based on the $15,499 MSRP in the US. For the sake of reference, the LiveWire One currently has a $29,999 MSRP in Canada.
We’ll know more when the S2 Del Mar actually hits the market later this year. While some models have been pre-sold, the delivery of the bikes has been delayed to the second half of 2023, and we’re still waiting for them to actually hit the streets.
