The 2023 KTM 50 SX Factory Edition: Tricked out, for kids

A 50cc motocross machine is plenty of fun, but can it be even more fun? KTM think so, and that’s why we get the new KTM 50 SX Factory Edition. Sounds bit crazy to make a “factory edition” of a small bike like this, but kids do race them, so here we are. KTM releases one of these every year, right around the time of the big AMA races at Loretta Lynn’s. And, it’s that time of year again.

What’s the new bike all about. There’s a full FMF exhaust system, which might give the little 49cc a bit snappier sound, even if the two-stroke doesn’t really gain any more jam (about 5.5 hp, says KTM). There’s a CNC-machined aluminum clutch cover and ignition cover, and KTM says the gearing, carb jetting and clutch are configured for race use. Hrmm.

The Factory Edition runs on Dunlop Geomax MX 53 tires, and once again, KTM includes a special gripper seat to keep your kids where they belong in the saddle, as they braaaap off the line. There’s also a set of grey grips, a trick-looking chain guide, and special-edition graphics kit.

Will your kid be faster with all these upgrades? Maybe, maybe not, but they’ll look faster. For its part, KTM says “Junior riders and racers that climb on the KTM 50 SX FACTORY EDITION can do so in the knowledge that they are experiencing class-leading performance with state-of-the-art WP Suspension, high-end brakes and minimal weight.

The Factory Edition has already appeared on KTM’s Canadian website, priced at $6,499, plus $335 freight, plus whatever charges your dealer adds, plus your provincial taxes. Find a complete rundown of the machine there, and more photos.
