We aren’t getting the Canadian Superbike season we hoped for, but we are getting a race season. CSBK is getting ready for the next round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park now (the Racetrack Formerly Known As Mosport).

This time around, there’s a triple-header for the Pro Superbike class. It’s going to be an extremely busy weekend, with VRRA races and two races for most of the national-level series.

Pro Superbike’s fast guys are going to be working extra-hard, though. They’ve got a single race scheduled on Saturday, and two on Sunday. That’s a tough workload, but it will leave the CSBK Pro Superbike series with a five-race season.

Going into the final race weekend, Alex Dumas leads the Pro Superbike series, winning both the races at Calabogie. Ben Young finished second in both those races, Jordan Szoke finished third. Realistically, one of those guys will probably win the series, but there’s opportunity for someone to come up the outside and overturn the standings, with a little luck.

CSBK Back for Three Days at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 13-15

The Canadian National Championship motorcycle road racing series, CSBK, will stage round two of their 2021 campaign at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 13-15.  The C.T.M.P. round will mark the return to a typical National event schedule for the first time since 2019, pre-Pandemic.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is located northeast of Oshawa, ON, about an hour’s drive from Toronto.  The venue is just over 4 kilometers in length and has ten corners.  This track has hosted a wide range of top-level racing events since its opening 60 years ago, and the CSBK Doubleheader event is a staple of summer’s racing schedule.

The August CSBK round at C.T.M.P. will be open to spectators, but tickets must be purchased in advance of the event via the C.T.M.P. web site.  Specific COVID-19 requirements will be in place for CSBK fans, crew, and competitors during the three-day event at C.T.M.P. 

The CSBK round at C.T.M.P., usually a double header, will provide three Pro Superbike Feature races in 2021.  Most of the National classes will have two races each – one Saturday afternoon, and the other on Sunday – but the top Pro competitors will have one race on Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday, making for a unique triple header format.

As well, Yuasa Batteries Qualifying for the Pros will take place on Friday afternoon, in two sessions.  The second 15-minute opening will be reserved for the top ten from Q1 and set the grid for all three of the weekend’s Pro Superbike Feature races.

At this year’s Calabogie opener, 2019 champion Ben Young of Clarksburg, ON, earned the Yuasa Batteries Pole Award aboard his Van Dolder’s Home Team BMW.  CSBK rookie Alex Dumas from Desmaures, QC, won both Calabogie races for the Liqui Moly/FAST School Suzuki squad, chased home in both instances by Young and Lynden, ON, based Jordan Szoke on the Canada General Warranty Kawasaki.  In 2020, current CSBK National champion Szoke won both races held at C.T.M.P.

Two races will be held for the middleweight Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike category, where Sebastien Tremblay of Laval, QC, leads the standings for the powerhouse Turcotte Performance Kawasaki squad.  BMW mounted Anthony Bergeron of Racine, QC, heads the Amateur Superbike class, and in Amateur Sport Bike, Yamaha’s Brad MacRae of Perth Road, ON sits atop the standings.  

The busy Super Sonic Roadrace School Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike category, always popular at C.T.M.P for tight slip-streaming battles, is headed by Mack Weil of nearby Keene, ON, aboard his Motorcyclecourse.com Kawasaki.

Unofficial motorcycle “Speed Week” will kick off August 6-8, with the Vintage Road Racing Association’s annual classic event.  This includes an Endurance event on Friday afternoon, and practice and racing throughout the weekend.  A limited number of tickets for the V.R.R.A. event will be available through the organizing group’s web site.
