Canadian Superbike officials just added another race date to the 2021 schedule. Now, the season will open on June 4-5, with Pro Superbike races at Calabogie.
Originally, the plan was to open the 2021 CSBK season at Grand Bend over June 10-11. Traditionally, CSBK opened at Shannonville, but that’s not happening in 2021—there are no Shannonville races scheduled this year. Instead, there was a Pro 6 track day planned for June 9, followed by the full race weekend.
(Remember, Pro 6 and CSBK have teamed up for this year’s operations, same as 2020, because of COVID-19 restrictions. Says CSBK big boss Colin Fraser, “CSBK will share some elements of staffing and especially Registration, as well as track time, with Pro 6, to economize (“efficiencies”) due to the missing spectators.
However CSBK/PMP still bring most of our typical National event staff, all of our equipment, Dyno, and so on, with only a few staffers missing due to COVID-19 travel restrictions … At the 2021 events where the new Pro 6 GP Series and CSBK do not overlap at Calabogie, we will provide equipment and some staff to support their races.“)
Now, the season will open with a Pro Superbike doubleheader on June 5, with qualifying running June 4 at Calabogie (no other classes will race that weekend). After Grand Bend, racers will tackle Calabogie again July 10-11. There’s a visit to Shubenacadie on July 31-August 1. Calabogie Pro Superbike Opener Confirmed for CSBK in 2021
The 2021 Canadian National Superbike roadracing Championship Series (CSBK) will start with a Pro Superbike-only event at Calabogie Motorsports Park, ON, on Friday and Saturday, June 4 and 5. This event is part of the Pro 6 GP Race Series, and will provide practice and Qualifying on Friday, June 4, with the opening two 2021 Superbike National Feature events on Saturday afternoon, June 5.
The opening event for the full series will take place, as previously announced, at Grand Bend Motorplex, ON, the following weekend, June 10-11, with a Pro 6 Track Day on the Friday. The Grand Bend event will not only offer races three and four of Pro Superbike action, but also a full array of National racing categories: Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike, Amateur Sport Bike, Amateur Superbike, and the Super Sonic Race School Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike category.
At the Pro Superbike opener at Calabogie, the two National Feature races will also offer points towards the new Pro 6 GP Race Series, based at the popular facility south west of Ottawa, ON. As at all National races, all competitors in Pro Superbike will be required to compete using spec Dunlop slick racing tires. Dunlop have been the official supplier of racing rubber for CSBK during the past eight seasons.
Calabogie opened the COVID-19 delayed 2020 CSBK Tour, with two races on a brutally hot July afternoon. 14-time Superbike National Champ Jordan Szoke of Lynden, ON, won both 12 lap races around the 5.05-kilometer-long venue. “Jordan of the Jungle” was aboard the works-backed Canada General Warranty Kawasaki ZX-10R Ninja. Mississauga, ON, based One Speed factory Suzuki GSX-R1000 racer Trevor Daley was second in the opener, followed by the Royal Distributing BMW S1000RR of Michael Leon from Beaconsfield, QC.
In Calabogie race two in 2020, Jeff Williams of Kingston, ON, was a close second to Szoke on another new BMW, with Daley working his way up to net third.
In other CSBK Series news, organizers Professional Motorsports Productions of Toronto, ON, have confirmed that their Competition Membership for 2021 will also include the Pro 6 GP Race Series membership, so one “hard card” will cover participation in both Championships. This two-series enrolment will also include membership in MCC, the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada, the National body for all forms of two-wheeled activity.
CSBK will continue to organize events in conjunction with Pro 6 in 2021, and event entry will once again be handled via the Pro 6 web site. In 2021, an updated management system has been implemented, the integrated MotorsportReg.com by Hagerty.
This new system is now on-line at Pro 6 Cycle.com within the Pro 6 GP section of their website as well as on Motorsportreg.com via msreg.com/Pro6GPCSBK. Pro 6 GP Race Series and CSSBK National competitors can now confirm their competition plate number and apply for 2021 membership.
