MV Agusta gives details of financial recovery plan

MV Agusta’s financial recovery plan was presented in court this week, and it sounds a lot like what the company was talking about last winter: Scaling back production and cutting the workforce to save money.

Asphalt & Rubber says MV Agusta is also looking to have debts frozen, and will concentrate on producing more profitable models as part of the restructuring. That most likely means the company will focus again on superbikes, with the three-cylinder 800 cc lineup taking a back seat.

The first real idea we’ll have of the future is at EICMA, the show where the Italian manufacturers focus on the hardest. If there are new models coming, expect to see them there.

But much of that future also depends on how things go in court for MV Agusta. While they’ve grown their lineup in recent years, the realities of motorcycle manufacturing finance are catching up to them– raw materials must be paid for before the bikes built from them are sold. If MV Agusta is able to get the court to approve their plan, they’ve got breathing room; if not, then things are going to get difficult for the company.
