For years, the biggest motorcycle shows – the ones where manufacturers unveil new models – have been in Europe. You may have heard of gatherings with names like Intermot, or EICMA. Sure, there are some bikes that have the wraps taken off in North America, but it’s not often.

The new American International Motorcycle Expo runs Oct. 16-20; like the European shows, only industry will be allowed for the first couple days. On the 18th, it opens to the paying public.

If you decide you want to combine a trip to the sun with a glimpse at new products and cycles (Suzuki said they’re unveiling some new bikes at AIME, and other manufacturers are offering test rides from their existing lineup), then check out their website here. It’ll cost you $15 to get in, unless you can convincingly pretend you’re 12 years old or younger, in which case you’d need to be accompanied by another adult willing to maintain the charade.

It’s going to be interesting to see AIME’s progress this year. Word is, some other North American shows are seeing a downswing in business, as customers decide the Florida show offers more bang for the buck, as it’s open to both industry and public, and is based in a tourist location. AIME hasn’t even had its first show yet, though, so it has a lot of catching up to do.
