What’s Canadian roadracing legend Miguel Duhamel up to these days? Why, he’s racing electric motorcycles, of course – and winning.

Duhamel retired from roadracing competition three years ago, but returned to race the Barracuda Racing Lighting at the FIM e-Power and TTXGP race at Le Mans on Friday – and won first place.

“It was a fantastic race,” Duhamel said afterwards. “Lightning is very powerful but you have to pace yourself to preserve the batteries for the end of the race.”

It was Duhamel’s first electric race – he’d done 40 test laps last week, but that was it. He seems to be a quick learner, though – unfortunately for his competitors.

    • Blackie, he retired in ’05, then came back, but AFAIK his last season with a contract was ’08. Since then he’s raced an occasional wild card, and sometimes said he was retired, sometimes said he wasn’t. Looks like he is trying the whole electric bike thing now. I hope the success continues; electric racing could use someone like Duhamel.
