Isle of Man’s TT Zero: Mugen wins again!

Mugen, the electric superbike manufacturer that has dominated the Isle of Man TT Zero since entering in 2014, has won again.

This year, Bruce Anstey piloted the Mugen to victory, with a 118.416 mph winning lap. That’s slower than the 119.279 mph lap his teammate John McGuinness won with last year. McGuinness was partially responsible for this year’s slower times. McGuinness’ bike broke down when he landed after catching air at Ballacrye; his engine shut down and momentarily refused to restart. With McPint out of the lead and unable to challenge him, and the Victory Racing team and other competitors not pressing him, Anstey said he eased up a bit in order to ensure he didn’t encounter trouble himself.

Speaking of Victory Racing: They showed up with an upgraded version of their Empulse RR, and earned second in the race with William Dunlop aboard. Third place was expected to go to Saroléa Racing, but they, too, encountered bike troubles, and instead a team from the University of Nottingham took the last podium spot.
