PEI to get new off-road park

Pity the poor off-roaders of Prince Edward Island: They live in a country with some of the world’s best off-roading access, but they’re unable to go for a rip on their dirt bike without being chased by a shotgun-wielding farmer.

Well, it’s not quite that bad, but Islanders do have less opportunity to go off-roading than riders in other provinces. That’s about to change, though, with word that the guys behind Spike’s Paintball are about to open an off-road riding park.

Called Spike’s Off Road Adventure Park, the facility will cover approximately 88 acres in York, PEI, northeast of Charlottetown (behind Spike’s existing facility off Rt. 25). According to Spike’s, they are looking for help with the park, saying “We are looking for clubs, associations and any individual that would like to help in the building and development of this project. It will be a fully monitored and regulated facility, any interested individuals feel free to contact (902) 393-1820.”

This is good news for Islanders who want to off-road, but don’t want to pay for the bridge or end up in trouble with Johnny Law for trespassing. Given the limited nature of PEI’s soil, you know the facility will likely mostly feature clay or sandy soil, but still, it’s a step forward for the province’s riders.
