The 2024 Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival is done and gone, with the pre-party kicking things off last Thursday, then films on Friday and Saturday. Now, it’s time to list this year’s award winners, and to see where the TMFF road show is going next!
Here are the Toronto Motorcycle Film Festival winners for 2024:
Best Feature Film Racing Mister Farenheit
Directed by Michael Rowley, the TMFF says “To beat death, an aging financier aims to break a world speed record on a one-of-a-kind motorcycle. When things take a devastating turn, he must face death at the finish line.” See more details on the film here.
Best Short Film Motorcycle Mary
This 22-minute short, directed by Haley Watson, gave viewers “The untold story of legendary motorsports pioneer Mary McGee a.k.a. Motorcycle Mary whose racing career spanned thirty years and saw Mary shatter gender norms while mastering multiple racing disciplines.” More details here.
Best Canadian Film The Road To Freedom
Director Rosie Gabrielle’s film about her moto adventures: “After months of feeling trapped and disconnected from her true self, Rosie Gabrielle embarks on a journey to reclaim her freedom through the exhilaration of riding, rediscovering the profound connection between life, adventure, and the open road.” More info here (but no trailer).
People’s Choice Award – Motorcycle Mary
This short film doubled up, also winning the audience’s vote for the best film this year!
What’s Next?
As they’ve done before, the TMFF is now hitting the road! The film festival travels to Calgary on October 24, for screenings at the Plaza Theatre (details here). Then, on November 14, the festival goes international, showing films in Tucson, Arizona (more information here). They’ll be in Victoria, BC, in March (see here) and at some point later in the spring of 2025, they’ll visit Vancouver as well. Stay tuned for more info on that plan.
