RIP Racer Grant Nesbitt

Grant Nesbitt, with hardware won in racing through 2022.

Grant Nesbitt, father to Canadian roadracing champ Stacey Nesbitt and a fine competitor in his own right, has died after a crash on the weekend.

Nesbitt was probably first across most Canadian racing fans’ radar around the early 2010s, when daughter Stacey’s on-track heroics took her to the championship in Honda’s CBR125 and CBR250 spec series in the Canadian Superbike schedule before she pursued her career overseas. Her team, Statoni Racing, was very much a family affair.

Grant himself had his own run of roadracing in Canada, in SOAR, CSBK, VRRA and Shannonville’s Super Series. He’d been riding in CSBK’s support classes since 2019, and is probably the only Canadian roadracer to share a podium with his daughter.

In the past couple of years, Grant and daughter Stacey had raced together in CSBK’s Pro-Am Lightweight series.

Grant Nesbitt was a respected competitor and well-liked by fellow racers and organizers, and he was known for his dedication to his family and support for their own efforts. Running a roadracing team here in Canada is not easy; working with an overseas program is even more difficult, but Grant helped his daughter Stacey do so.

He was racing at Shannonville on Sunday, September 8 when he died in a crash during the Lightweight Twins race. We here at CMG are sad to hear of his death and wish to pass our deepest sympathies on to his family, as well his friends from the world of racing.

For Grant’s friends from the world of roadracing, Snap Shot Trackside photography has set up a link where they can share their favorite photos of him here.

  1. I was blessed to have the opportunity to meet the whole family when they were involved with the CBR125R series. Rest in peace Grant, you were loved.
