A month ago, we told you about the new BMW S1000 R, and shared some specs. Now, BMW’s just released a new video showing a more in-depth look at the new naked bike, and what it can do.
The BMW S1000 R is derived from the S1000 RR superbike, with engine basically the same as the S1000 XR “adventure” bike that debuted back in 2019. That is to say—it’s BMW’s latest-gen inline four, but it doesn’t have the Shiftcam top end. It makes 165 horsepower at 11,000 rpm, and 84 pound-feet of torque at 9,250 rpm, same as the outgoing model, but it’s supposed to have a more usable powerband.
Much of the rest of the bike is derived from the superbike cousin as well, including the frame, swingarm, 6.5-inch Bluetooth-enabled TFT screen, and electronics package. While it would certainly be nice to have variable valve timing just like the RR model, it’s got all the stuff that matters, at least.
Like the S1000 RR, the R model can also be upgraded with the M package, basically a track/performance package similar to what’s available for BMW’s car lineup. It’s coming to Canada for the spring selling season, with a $16,500 MSRP.
