Hey, remember that Internet rumour from last week, about a new Africa Twin? It appears to be true.
Today, Honda released a video (above) which seems to say we can expect a new Africa Twin for 2020, and Honda UK also released a sign-up form for interested customers to stay up-to-date on the new bike.
What will the new bike look like? According to rumour, it’ll be stroked to about 1080 cc capacity, with 101 hp and 79 lb-ft of torque. Most of the chassis will be similar to the existing model, and there will still be two models: the base machine (known as the CRF1100L) and the Adventure Sports edition.
The CRF1100L is expected to have the same large-capacity fuel tank as the Adventure Sports edition, and both versions will have a DCT (auto gearbox) option available.
None of those rumours have been confirmed yet, but it does indeed seem the moto-spies were on to something. We’re sure to learn more in coming weeks, as show season approaches.
I think Honda should be going in the opposite direction; smaller, lighter. There are just too many players (that do a pretty good job) in the big bike field.
Give us something Honda reliable in the 700-800 range to compete with the 800GS, or KTM. By the time the Tenere 700 gets here, the cows will have come home…
Rumor has it that Honda is working on something in the 750 to 850 range.
