So, Dickies is now a “Motorcycle Outfitter”

For years, the blue-collar biker crowd – the guys who weld their own choppers together and star in films like this – have espoused Dickies workwear. Apparently Dickies has decided this is enough to warrant tackling the motorcycle market head-on, with a new line of riding wear.

What do you get for your money? An array of canvas or waxed-cotton outerwear, heavy flannel shirts, and jeans. The jeans have built-in Kevlar lining, but none of the other gear has Kevlar or any other technical safety feature, although Dickies did include pockets for Forcefield armour.

For now, it seems the Dickies Motorcycle Outfitters collection (“Dickies Motorcycle has been developed by motorcycle enthusiasts in collaboration with Dickies”) is intended for overseas customers, as the website pricing is all in UK currency. We haven’t heard yet about a move on the North American market, but they’re certainly using the same marketing jargon that sells big V-twin cruisers …

  1. The waxed cotton jacket seems like a total bargain compared to similar offerings from Belstaff or Barbour.
The rest of the collection – meh.
A little too hipstah for me…

    • More inexpensive can be had – I like the waxed jacket I got from from Speedwear.co.uk, and it’s priced at £64.99 for the lighter weight 12oz cotton and £149 for the 13oz cotton.

Compared to the Barbour jacket I wore out – generally decent build and so far the jacket is holding up well. (some of the belt grommets are a touch loose, but that’s the only niggle after a couple of years)

Admittedly, the Dickies jacket has armour pockets which is a nice touch.
