Harley-Davidson, X Games to team up for flat track event

That's right, kids - you can take in vintage flat track racing in Alberta this weekend.

It’s official: Flat track racing is coming to the X Games, thanks to Harley-Davidson.

Ever since last winter, we’ve known Harley-Davidson is keen to get the X Games to introduce some sort of racing event promoting their motorcycles; last January, it was ice racing.

Now, it’s flat track racing, and it’s coming to the X Games this spring.

The Harley-Davidson/X Games team-up means there’s an invitation-only race on June 4 in Austin, Texas. The race will run on a 3/8 mile being constructed at the Circuit of the Americas; invitees include Brad Baker, Jared Mees, Shayna Texter and about 20 other riders so far.

Tickets go on sale for the event on April 15, if you want to watch the race in person. If you want to see it on TV, you can watch it on ESPN at 9 PM EST on June 4.

Although the race is an attempt by Harley-Davidson to get the youth market interested in their motorcycles, particularly the Street 500 and Street 750 beginner models, the riders will actually use purpose-built XR750 machines – a bike that, ironically, has been out of production for years.
