MotoGP star Jorge Lorenzo will race with Yamaha through the end of 2014.

News came out yesterday that Lorenzo had signed a two-year extension with his current employers. After news came down of Casey Stoner’s retirement at the season’s end, word on the street was Lorenzo might jump to Honda. MotoGP gossip even had his management in talks with Big Red last week.

But, Honda’s going to have to find Stoner’s replacement elsewhere; Lorenzo says this week’s move to stay with Yamaha puts him closer to his goal of finishing his career with them. And with his success so far this season – he’s tops in the standings, and has won three of five races so far – Yamaha is likely going to want to keep him around.
