It looks like the fastest man in Canada is hoping to join the World Superbike series.

In two separate news releases over on Roadracing World, it appears that Brett McCormick is hoping to join the Effenbert Liberty World Superbike racing team.

After the Portimao round, Effenbert Liberty says they gave three riders – Maxime Berger, Brett McCormick, and Saints Barragan –  a chance to rip around the Algarve circuit on the team’s Ducati 1098s.. Berger posted the top lap time, at 1’43.3, with McCormick right on his heels at 1’44.2. Barragan’s time was 1’47.0.

McCormick reportedly caught Effenbert Liberty’s eye on the media following the race, when he had the chance to test-ride several different motorcycles at the track. After posting better and better times, despite being allowed only one flying lap on each bike, Effenbert Liberty took notice and gave him a tryout.

Riding the Ducati 1098, McCormick managed to get to a lap time consistently in the 1’44s, with his best lap time of 1’44.2, which would have put him between the 9th and 10th place finishers in Sunday’s Superbike race.

Effenbert Liberty’s press release says they’ll let the world know their decision soon; McCormick’s press release says he’s going home to Saskatchewan to evaluate his options and play ice hockey. How Canadian can you get?

It’s sad to say, but even if McCormick doesn’t make it in World Superbike, he still may have to look outside the country for work. With the national superbike series in disarray after losing major sponsor Parts Canada, and with his closest competitor Jordan Szoke’s team shut down by Kawasaki, McCormick may not even have a competitive series to race in here at home in 2012.
