Problem: On certain scooters, the connecting rod in the engine could crack or break because of an improper heat treatment of the metal. Should the connecting rod break, the engine would immediately stop running. If the engine stops running while being ridden, it could result in an accident causing personal injury or death.
Correction: Yamaha dealers will disassemble the affected engine and replace the crankshaft assembly with one that has a properly heat-treated connecting rod.
