MV Agusta announces deal with Chinese manufacturer Loncin

MV Agusta has announced a plan to build motorcycles in China in collaboration with Loncin.

It’s a big change for MV Agusta, which has traded on its image of no-expense-spared performance and finish for many years. While other Euro manufacturers have been building motorcycles in Asia for years now (Triumph, BMW, KTM, Ducati), MV Agusta hasn’t done so. Instead, the company has relied on remixes of premium products, with celebrity endorsements and refinements of high-performance machines as its developments.

That’s changing. In a world where even Harley-Davidson is now working on a Chinese manufacturing deal, MV Agusta will hold out no longer. The Italian manufacturer has confirmed a plan to develop a line of small-capacity motorcycles with Loncin. Supposedly, four new bikes will result from the deal, in the 350-550 cc range.

Loncin is one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in China, currently making bikes in the 150-300 cc range. As part of the deal, MV Agusta will help Loncin develop its own line of bigger bikes, with 800 cc motors. Those bikes will be sold under the VOGE marque.

Supposedly, the new made-in-China MV Agustas will be in dealerships by 2021.

  1. This is win win. An Italian manufacturer’s opportunity to build a more reliable motorcycle thanks to the Chinese; oooh, that was a cheap-shot sorry and MV can access the Chinese market through China’s joint venture scheme. MV’s are sexy, af. A smaller more affordable one could be cool.

  2. Jeeze, the whole world is in ‘overdrive’ when it comes to component manufacture origins as well as assembly source. So much for the ‘Good old Days’ when a British, Italian or American bike was just that.
