Vanguard Motorcycles marque to make debut at NYC show

Vanguard Motorcycles

Vanguard Motorcycles, a new motorcycle marque, will make its debut at the upcoming International Motorcycle Show in New York City.

Vanguard’s staff won’t have to travel far to attend the show, as promo copy says the bikes are intended to be built in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the company’s bigwigs are based in NYC.

The Vanguard Roadster (the first bike to debut) will not be a machine for the plebs. With an MSRP at $29,995 US, this is a bike for the well-heeled. Details in the press release were slim, but it’s obviously built around a massive air-cooled V-twin. The styling is reminiscent of Husqvarna’s Vitpilen — sort of a neo-traditional design. However, the Vanguard has a much beefier engine than the Husky’s 400-class thumper. The press copy says the Vanguard’s 1900 cc engine is derived from the S&S X-Wedge powerplant, putting out 110 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed gearbox mated to a shaft drive. That engine is also a structural member of the chassis.

Suspension is fully-adjustable 48 mm Ohlins forks up front, and an Ohlins monoshock in rear. Seat height is 813 mm, fuel capacity is 21 litres, and “target weight,” whatever that means, is 250 kg. Tires are Metzeler Marathons, and front and rear wheels are both 18-inchers.

Along with the Roadster, Vanguard plans to also release a cruiser and “racer” model — we’d guess that means a cafe racer. Production of the Roadster is supposed to start in 2018. See more information on the bike and the company’s plans in its release below:
