Guy Martin tried speedway sidecar racing; now, Casey Stoner’s been challenged

While messing about in New Zealand, street circuit racer Guy Martin popped up at the Oreti Park Speedway recently during the Burt Munro Challenge. As you can imagine, one thing led to another. Soon enough, Martin was flying hot laps around the track in a sidecar rig on racer Jamie Moohan’s machine, with monkey Jacob Cooper on board.

Martin was apparently properly chuffed by the experience, and we would not be surprised to see him attempt to set a speed record in this bracket, as he’s tried just about everywhere else.

But now, a challenge has been issued by another speedway sidecar competitor: Trent Headland, one of the sport’s top competitors, put this offer for Casey Stoner out on Facebook:

Hi Casey, It maybe a long shot but the offers there. Yesterday Guy Martin had a spin behind the bars of a speedway sidecar at the Burt Munro challenge in NZ and it got me thinking I will be racing at Mick Doohan race way in Brisbane for the Qld sidecar championship on 3rd Dec and I offer you the opportunity to take my bike for a demonstration “spin” my bikes state of the art we are currently second in the world and second in Australia so equipment and support doesn’t get much better hope to hear from you.

Casey Stoner trying speedway sidecar racing? He cut his teeth on dirt dracks, so it’s not like it would be unfamiliar territory, and it would do a lot for his reputation to get involved with something this wacky and fun. But we’re not holding out hope: The chances of Stoner being involved with anything besides behind-the-scenes MotoGP stuff are pretty slim.
