Honda starts CBR1000RR promotion campaign

According to Honda, the new CBR1000RR will give riders “Total Control.”

Big Red has kicked off the promotional campaign for its new CBR1000RR superbike — you can see the video above. Honda has actually launched an all-new website promoting the all-new motorcycles it has have coming up — see that here.

The “Total Control” label slapped on the new litrebike is interesting. Over the past few years, the Japanese manufacturers have not all embraced the move towards electronic rider aids. While European superbikes all use ride-by-wire technology, with anti-wheelie control, engine management software, traction control, and other techno-wizardry, Honda has avoided using that technology. So does the new tagline indicate Honda is now going to include a comprehensive electronics package, or does it signal the reiteration of the tired cliché “Our bikes are so easy to ride that you don’t need electronic help“? Or could it mean the dual clutch transmission is coming to the bikes?

Wait until Intermot, and we’ll know all …

  1. Not a moment too soon Honda…

Still waiting for THE model that will replace my old (but still awesome) FZ1. Obviously it’s not going to be this thing but possibly Honda will do like others and leverage some of that platform on more rider friendly machines, like Yamaha did with the (unfortunately butt ugly) FZ10…

Ride by wire is at least to be expected as are riding modes, cruise control would be a nice touch, on such bikes it allows to rest a bit, very useful on longer road trips, BMW was smart to do it. To get to R1 level it would need electronic suspension adjustment.

But that’s not enough. It’s been so long this should be a flagship and a technological showcase. We’ll see, Honda is very capable but has been such a disappointment lately I wouldn’t get my hopes up too much.

  2. Is it just me or does the rider look likes he completely misses the apex of the first turn (5 seconds in)…total control my ass. Lousy video overall, does nothing to get me going.
