Stuntman manages canyon jump that Evel Knievel failed

Stuntman Eddie Braun stunt has nailed the infamous Snake River Canyon stunt Evel Knievel failed in 1974.

While Knievel was famous for jumping Harley-Davidsons and Triumphs over schoolbuses, the Snake River Canyon was perhaps his best-known attempt at a stunt, and it never actually came off as planned. You can read more about it here, but the gist of it is, Knievel’s rocket-powered Skycycle X-2 never made it across the canyon, as the emergency parachute was deployed right after the launch. Knievel survived, but he left a lot of fans unhappy.

Now, Braun has succeeded where Knievel failed. He made it across Snake River Canyon (427 metres wide) in his own rocket-powered contraption (dubbed the “Evel Spirit,” and patterned after Knievel’s original craft) last Friday, landing with the aid of two separate parachutes. Allegedly, he funded the $1.5 million stunt himself, when nobody would sponsor the stunt.
