More big sales growth for Polaris motorcycle brands

Polaris Q2 sales results are in, and the company’s motorcycle sales continue to see phenomenal growth.

Polaris figures its subsidiaries’ motorcycle sales (between Indian and Victory, as well as Slingshot three-wheelers) were up 23 per cent over 2015’s Q2. That number includes parts and accessory sales. Gross profit for Polaris’s motorcycle sales was up 63 per cent to $39.8 million.

Those numbers sound decent, but they’re even better when you consider Polaris’s claim that North American demand for their motorcycles was up in the”mid-teens percent” in Q2, while as a whole, sales for bikes 900cc and bigger were down “mid-single digits.”  Translation: Polaris is selling lots of big bikes, but the competition isn’t.

Polaris says all three motorcycle divisions saw sales growth in Q2, despite predictions the Victory brand would suffer greatly with Indian’s introduction.

So what does this mean for the industry? It’s certainly another wake-up call for the made-in-America competition, and it also means financial gurus are starting to pay attention to Polaris stocks. Not only is Polaris competing with Harley-Davidson for retail sales,  but the company’s stocks are also looking attractive to investors, which could make for interesting times, as the ownership situation always has a trickle-down effect on showroom floors.
