Recall #: 2015559
Models Involved: 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1
Number of Vehicles: 240
Problem: On certain motorcycles, the second gear wheel and the pinion gears in the transmission may be of inadequate strength. In high stress cases, this could cause internal components in the transmission to deform or break.
Correction: Dealers will replace the transmission assembly with one that includes gears of a different design.

[…] the meantime, Transport Canada – the importer for Yamaha motorcycles in Canada – issued a recall for 240 units, while some YZF-R1 owners in the USA have begun to receive letters from their local Yamaha dealers […]
I emailed Transport Canada Friday Night to see if they might have made a typo ( I mentioned that I had heard it was for 2015 Models in the US). They promptly replied to me this morning that they indeed had made a mistake and that it was the 2015 model R1 that is recalled. Their website is now updated.
Actually the technical bulliten I found on the website has ‘Provisional’ stamped over each page. So it isn’t the final word I guess…
In the USA the transmission recall is affecting 2015 models. I have a copy of the 18 page Yamaha technical bulletin that was posted by a member on a forum. It clearly states the recall is for all 2015 R1 and R1M models ( for the US models). Did Yamaha Canada give Transport Canada wrong info? Did Transport Canada inadvertently enter the wrong year? Or are Canadian customers lucky and their 2015 models are not affected?
Is that 240 bikes world wide?
