Welcome to the First Person account of the 2005 Mad Bastard Scooter Rally. In this second (and final) piece we hand it over to some of the participants to give their viewpoint of how riding a scooter around Lake Ontario worked for them.

In part 1 of our long-term V-Strom update, we went over the fitting of a whole host of SW Motech parts (kindly supplied by Twisted Throttle), before Mr. Seck took it out on its inaugural dirt ride at one of Rally Connex's dual-sport events. Everything seemed to hold up well, but then he was babying it … somewhat.

Alcohol is a dangerous thing. I’m not talking about the obvious here – drunken behaviour, drowning in your own vomit, etc. No it’s its ability to make a bad idea seem good that has caused the most grief for me in the past.

Bloody cold it was ... With one eye on the Aprilia’s ambient air-temp gauge and the other scanning the road ahead for ice, I realized that a late October tour in the northern Appalachians was somewhat of a challenging idea.

Riding is different in Brazil.

Everything slowed down for a moment, as the sounds of revving motors all around me lost their bark. I took one big deep breath and let the clutch go in unison with the flag drop.

Ah, race day. I wanted to leave nothing to chance today so got up early and made sure that I had my mind around everything.

Appearances are deceptive. The Drifter provokes double takes and second glances. Observers smile when see what they think is a beautifully restored Indian Chief, then doubt corrugates their brows as realisation dawns that it’s an illusion. Few but the cognoscenti ever peg it as a Kawasaki on causal inspection.

Ahhh, spring has finally sprung and what better way to celebrate the dawn of summer than what is most likely the first Canadian motorcycle test ride of the year - we're there for you Canada, albeit bloody cold!
