Piaggio MP3 310: The Leaning Three-Wheeler Revisited

The Piaggio MP3 was the first leaning three-wheeler to hit the mainstream market (sort of), but with machines like the Yamaha Niken, the more modest step-through has sort of faded from its initial hype. But Piaggio is still building these machines over in Italy, and they have just released the new MP3 310 model in this series.

Over the last few years, Piaggio has focused on larger versions of the MP3 platform, but this is a return to the original, smaller-capacity design, although it should be noted that even on this smaller version of the scoot, the engine has grown in its latest update:

‘The Piaggio MP3 310 is equipped with an all-new engine, the latest in the extraordinary HPE (High Performance Engine) family: Type-approved according to the Euro 5+ standard, the 310 hpe engine benefits from an increased cubic capacity ( 310 cc instead of the 278 cc of the previous engine), as well as various features specifically designed to enhance the driving experience, not only in terms of performance, but also with regard to the ride comfort and driveability – all combined with reduced fuel consumption.”

The bodywork also gets a re-design, with new LED lights up front. And in that dash, there’s a new gauge cluster with 5-inch LCD display that includes tripmeters, speedo, tach and all the other essential gauges and warning buttons. The controls are re-jigged and there is a new glove compartment that has a USB charging port inside. There’s a new keyless ignition for 2025, as well.

Finally, there’s a new stepped saddle with improved comfort thanks to careful shaping of a new foam structure, offering lots of lumbar support for the pilot. There are fold-out floorboards that give the pillion a relaxed riding position as well. And of course, lots of room underneath that seat for storage; Piaggio says two helmets can fit in there (not full-face style, though).
