2001 Race Diaries

The 2001 Race Diaries is a chronological record of how Team CMG hatched the original racing plan, all the way through to final race in Montreal. It's sad, desperate and funny. Hey it even has a near death experience on the part of team mate Mr. Seck (although there's no blood or gore).

PART 1

THE BIG PLAN
All our hopes and aspirations to become racing gods.

PART 2 THE BIG RACE SCHOOL
At Cayuga, Ontario, to get our race licenses - by doing the RACE school, funnily enough.
PART 3 THE BIG TUNE-UP
Tune up the R1100S (race pipe and chip) at Bavarian Motosports and dyno it before and after at Brampton Cycle.

PART 4

THE BIG PRACTICE
Take the bike(s) to the Mosport, Ontario round to get some practice time on the track on the Friday and Saturday, without actually having to race.

PART 5

THE BIG COMPETITORS
Who are we going to be racing against? Interviews with the #1 Buell guy and #1 BMW guy.

PART 6 THE BIG RACE - PRACTICE
After a quick tour, we take the bike to St Eustache, Quebec for the big race weekend. Friday is practice day. Mr. Seck crashes.
PART 7 THE BIG RACE - QUALIFYING HEATS
Saturday starts with some practice sessions and then it's the heat race to determine grid position. Will Team CMG do better than be at the back?
PART 8 THE BIG RACE - THE MORNING OF
Sunday - race day. All seems to be coming together nicely.
PART 9 THE BIG RACE - THE REAL THING
Who'd have thunk that it would rain, and just for our heat?

Our thanks for making all this possible:

  • Norm, Mark, Dave and Richard at BMW Canada for the loan of, and help with, the R1100S.

  • Jack Grammas of ASM for getting us on the track at Mosport, on the ASM Race School and everything else that he's doing for team CMG.

  • Ian, Steve, Costa and J.P. for their support and words of wisdom.

  • Pat Doyle at Bavarian Motosports for setting up and servicing the R1100S.

  • Ralph Frisken of R.A.C.E. for setting up the day at Cayuga so that we can get our race licences.

  • Richard Seck for the photography and organisation skills.

  • Monette Sports for prepping the S for the St. Eustache round.

  • ARAI North America for the pair of lovely new pair of Quantum / f helmets

  • Teknic for the leathers, gloves and boots.

  • Metzeler USA for the pair of MEZ 3s.

  • John Bickle of Bickle Racing for the CMG logos on the leathers.

  • The Gods of Denmark for accepting our tadpole sacrifices (okay, we never got as far up the food chain as humans).

  • Mr. Smithwick and his fine ale for continuing to be a friend when you need him most.
