Pity the poor east coasters. Long, sucky winters. Warmer winters than the prairies, but so much ice and sloppy snow that riding season doesn’t really start much sooner or end much later. And, no real motorcycle shows, except for the one in Halifax.
Actually, we heard about some new dealer show running in Fredericton this year, but since the MMIC pulled their industry show out of Moncton about a decade ago, the only place to see a sizeable number of new motorcycles in the same place at the same time was to get to Halifax for the Motorcycle and Powersport Atlantic show, which is now in its 10th year. This year, the show runs February 28 (Friday) through March 2 (Sunday).
As it’s not directly sponsored by Moto Canada (formerly the MMIC), the Halifax show is dealership-based, but tends to be more organized than most of those events, with more to see. This year, they’re promising us “You’ll find everything you need ride in style this season. Hundreds of units on-site from the latest models of motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs and more… plus apparel, parts, accessories, clubs and rallies, powerlifting competitions and MORE!”
Ah yes, powerlifting, the classic side interest of scooter riders and sportbike junkies. Well, whatever—it is genuinely a good thing to see that someone is still doing something out east, and this time of year, it’s the best place to meet other serious motorcyclists in Atlantic Canada, with riders coming from all over the Maritimes to attend.
Once again, this show runs at the Exhibition Centre on Prospect Road. Ticket prices are $14 for adults (aged 18-64), with seniors (65 and older) and students (age 10-17) getting in for $12. A family of two adults and two juniors gets in for $34. Doors are open 10 AM-8 PM Friday and Saturday, and 10 AM-5 PM Sunday. For more details, check the show’s website here.
