The Canadian Superbike series isn’t known for having a silly season, but in the past few days we’ve seen some big changes in the series, starting with the current champion switching up his ride.
Ben Young, who’s riding a three-peat championship roll, taking the 2022-2024 titles as well as the 2019 title, is finally moving away from BMW, the brand he rode while winning all his Canadian Superbike championships. For 2025, Ben Young will be riding on a Honda  CBR1000RR-SP. It’s actually a two-year deal, through 2026, and Young will be taking his existing team members (mechanics Willie Vass and Scott Cartier) as he leaves BMW behind.
It’s a big move for Honda Canada, as they haven’t seemed too concerned about winning the CSBK championship ever since Jodi Christie took the 2014 title for Big Red. And it’s a big move for Young as well, although perhaps it shouldn’t be a terrible surprise, as Young had already started racing a Suzuki GSX-R750 in the Sport Bike series in CSBK, as well as the Daytona 200 one-off race.
In other news, the Canadian national series is going to be one round shorter than initially expected for 2025. The fourth round at the Rocky Mountain Motorsports track in Calgary is now off the schedule. CSBK’s website said this:
The difficult decision was made due to external factors that would have prevented the championship from operating in a normal fashion.
The venue limitations, set by city council, were unable to be overcome for the 2025 season. CSBK organizers would like to thank RMM officials for their collaboration during this process, which included a successful mid-season test during the 2024 season.
So, if you live in Calgary, thank your city leaders for having no racing this season. But the series is still on-target for its visit to Edmonton this coming summer.
If you did any fact checking at all, you’d know that the RMM track is near Carstairs, not Calgary. It is almost an hour north of Calgary, so our city leaders, while useless, have nothing to do with this.
