Port Dover, Friday The 13th: The Last Hurrah For 2024

It’s Friday the 13th this week, and you know what that means. Bad luck? Uh maybe. And it also means the Port Dover moto rally is on again. Although considering the wintry conditions, maybe riders are going to take their cars instead this week…

Of all the motorcycle rallies that have come and gone in Canada, the Port Dover parties on Friday the 13th have been the only event that really seems to have the draw and staying power that the big American rallies do. Not that it compares to Daytona Bike Week or Sturgis or Americade in size, but it draws from Canada’s largest urban center multiple times a year. The Wharf Rat Rally or Atlanticade never did that.

Port Dover’s Friday the 13th biker parties are supposed to run no matter what the weather is, and that means this week’s rally is a go for at least some faithful attendees, despite a somewhat iffy forecast (high of -3 Celsius, mix of sun and cloud, chance of flurries, according to Environment Canada). We would be surprised to see too many chrome wagons in attendance. But if you head to the so-called “official Port Dover Friday the 13th facebook page hosted by the Port Dover Kinsmen Club,” you’ll see they do indeed plan on people showing up this year, and they’re busy cranking out knick-knacks to sell them.

What that says about the scene, we’ll leave your imagination. However, the “official” PD13 website is counting down the days ’til next June’s rally, not this week’s rally, so perhaps they’re somewhat more realistic in their expectations.
