BMW’s F-series twins are getting an upgrade for 2025—well, two of them anyway. The F900 XR crossover (or is it a sport tourer) and the F900 R naked bike both get some updates.
Both bikes get essentially the same changes, because they’re essentially the same package; the F900 XR just has longer travel suspension and beefier, travel-friendly bodywork, but they share the same engine, frame and many other parts.
That engine meets the new Euro 5+ emissions standard for 2025, and BMW says the twin-cylinder makes 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and 68.6 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. It’s not your grandma’s F-twin.
The 2025-model-year updates start with a diet. The F900 bikes both get the same lightweight wheels from the S1000 R, and a new battery. Between those changes, that’s 2.5 kg of weight savings. Both machines also get a new fork with complete adjustability (spring preload, rebound and compression damping), and there’s a new shock on both machines as well.
Both machines also come with leaning-sensitive Dynamic Traction Control and ABS Pro systems, and a new Dynamic riding mode, all included as standard. They also get a standard leaning-sensitive adaptive headlight that can adjust its beam to point down into corners when you’re heeled over after dark.
Both machines also get a new, tidier tailpiece, with the signal lights built in. As far as individual differences between the bikes: the BMW F900 XR gets new bodywork, including handguards, and even heated grips to keep the chill at bay. There’s also a new USB-C charging port to keep your phone topped up on the road. And the BMW F900 R gets pegs, handlebar and other bits adjusted to make the bike more sporty.
BMW has an extensive package of accessories for both bikes, including accessory seats, windshields, luggage and lots more. BMW says these machines should be in North America in the first quarter of 2025, with pricing coming then.
