Coming This Week: New BMW Adventure Bike

The roll-out of new R1300-series BMW models continues, with a new BMW R1300 GS Adventure expected this Friday, July 5.

BMW gave us the date via the YouTube teaser above, promising the “Ultimate Globetrotter.” It looks like we’re getting a flagship adventure bike with a flat twin engine, which certainly points to a new R1300 GS Adventure.

The R1300 GS debuted in 2023 with an all-new engine featuring total liquid cooling (not just the heads) and a scaled-down design that was physically smaller in size and a lot lighter than previous models. The 1300 dropped 12 kg from the previous 1250 model, and also got refined electronics and suspension updates to boot. It is a much-improved motorcycle.

At the time of its launch, BMW announced three sub-models, the Triple Black, GS Trophy and Option 719 Tramauntana. The GS Trophy sub-model is the most off-road worthy (and serves as the basis of the machine the GS Trophy competitors will ride in Namibia this September). However, it lacks the 21-inch front wheel, oversized gas tank and other ADV-friendly features that the Adventure model historically has. For 2024, we got an R1250 GS Adventure, but no R1300 GS Adventure.

We’d guess that’s about to change. However, it’s also possible that we’re about to see something else entirely. For months now, there have been rumours of a soon-to come M-series GS. This bike would have an emphasis on performance and speed. Perhaps that bike will debut this weekend.

Leaked regulatory documents do seem to indicate that BMW’s new Automated Shift Assistant gearbox (a twist-and-go arrangement) will debut on the bike we see released this weekend, along with the other new R-series bikes coming out this fall (expect sport tourers and nakeds). As always, we’ll let you know more as we hear it.
