The Yamaha XMAX scooter is updated for 2023, with a list of improvements that should make for a better riding experience whether you’re commuting around town or leaving city limits.
Thanks to a 292 cc liquid-cooled SOHC single-cylinder engine, the Yamaha XMAX is an all-rounder that works in a wide range of scenarios. Although it’s not as powerful as the maxi-scooters we had here in Canada a few years back, it’s still capable enough on the highway, with 27 horsepower on tap. Of course, it’s very fuel-efficient as well, which is a big attraction for buyers in our current climate of rapidly rising fuel prices. It doesn’t sound like the Blue Core-series engine has any changes for 2023.
The XMAX gets a restyling for 2023, which may not sound like a big deal here in our market, but in Europe, where these things are everywhere, this is big news. The new X-shaped LED headlight and taillight will stand out even in Canada, along with the flashy new gloss paint and leather-look seat cover. That seat’s been reshaped, too, making it easier to reach the ground with your legs.
There’s still an LCD speedo gauge, but the scooter gets a 4.2-inch colour TFT screen now, with smartphone connectivity for infotainment purposes. Using the Y-Connect app, riders can access details about their scooter or control music playback and mobile connectivity. The TFT also displays navigation info from Garmin, if users pay for that service.
The motorcycle-style front fork, keyless ignition, two-position adjustable windscreen, adjustable handlebars, 12V socket, and traction control features all return for 2023. As before, the XMAX has a 15-inch front wheel and 14-inch rear, with disc brakes front and back.
And now the tough part of this news release: Asking price is $7,599 for 2023, plus taxes and fees, which will add up quickly. If you buy this scooter to save on gas, it’ll take a while to see those savings realized—but you’ll sure have a lot of fun along the way!
