New KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO slated for 2022

If the silly-fast KTM 1290 Super Duke R wasn’t edgy enough for you (see CMG’s First Ride here), and you are upset that the upgraded RR version never came to Canada (see the specs here), then we’ve got good news for you: There’s another crazy-fast Super Duke coming.

Earlier this week, Asphalt & Rubber revealed it has information on a new KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO coming for 2022. This doesn’t seem to be quite as technologically advanced as the RR model was, but it’s still a big upgrade over the R model (which is no slouch itself).

The new EVO model is said to come with semi-active electronic suspension, sourced from KTM’s subsidiary WP. A&R also reports users can upgrade to even higher-spec fork and shock on the EVO model, if they have the extra coin to spend.

There’s also a new set of bodywork with flashy paint, as you’d expect, and a quick-open throttle (all the better for track days?). However, A&R doesn’t report any other changes, and we certainly haven’t heard anything about them elsewhere.

It’s unlikely we’ll see a whole host of hard parts changed out, as that gets expensive, but maybe the EVO model will feature an advanced software package, at least.

A&R does say the MSRP for the new bike is $19,599 in the US market, which gives us an idea of what to expect in Canada. Let’s assume KTM brings this to our market (and since that decision would likely be made by KTM North America, we see no reason why that wouldn’t happen). If this machine comes here, we’d expect MSRP in the $23,000 CAD range. That would put it at the high end of pricing, but it is an up-specced bike, and customers expect a higher price tag in that case.

Expect more information on this bike during November’s EICMA show, with machines arriving in showrooms this winter.
