After a year and a half of teasing, Aprilia took the wraps off the new Tuareg 660 adventure bike last weekend … sort of. We got a good look at the bike, and a few basic specs, but the full in-person reveal is still to come.
Here’s what we do know: The new Tuareg 660 is powered by the same liquid-cooled parallel twin as the RS660 and Tuono 660. In the Tuareg, it will make 80 hp and 51 lb-ft of torque, considerably more than the old 650 singles.
There was a recent recall on that 660 engine, in Aprilia’s other machines, but it seems the issue with potentially dodgy con rods was limited to a segment of an early production run, from a third-party manufacturer.
Aprilia says the Tuareg 660 will weigh 187 kg dry, and comes with 18-litre fuel tank. That’s about five litres more than the Suzuki DR650, five less than the 2022 Kawasaki KLR650. Same for the dry weight—more than the DR650, less than the KLR650.
We have no idea when the Tuareg 660 will come to Canada. Piaggio Group products typically take their time coming to North America; we’d expect to see the new bike completely revealed during the fall show circuit. After that, we might see Canadian availability in spring of 2022.
When it comes out, expect a price tag around $13,000. That’s where the RS660 sportbike sits, and the high-spec equipment on the Tuareg will likely place it in the same ballpark.
