Common Tread XP recreates (sort of) the Dumb and Dumber mini bike trip

Finally, someone’s recreated the most relatable moto-scene of 1990s film.

Before Hollywood turned into a factory of absolute dreck, you used to see a lot of motorcycle scenes inserted into movies. Think of the first three Terminator films, especially Terminator 2, with Robert Patrick flogging a KZ1000, Edward Furlong ripping on an XR80 (that sounded suspiciously like a two-stroke …) and Arnold Schwarzenegger rolling around on a Fat Boy.

Or maybe the legendary chase scene in Matrix: Reloaded, with Carrie-Anne Moss using a Ducati to escape computer-programmed Agents. Or just about any Tom Cruise film, where he always, always rode without a helmet (Top Gun being the best example).

Those scenes were always inserted into films to let us know just how cool and exciting the plot and its protagonists were. But there was one classic motorcycle film scene that was intended to depict just the opposite. We’re talking about 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, featuring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels on a road trip to a little place called Asssspppppen.

Dumb and Dumber is many things: A road trip movie. A buddy movie. A pioneer in the toilet humour genre. But, in all that fun, the movie’s script puts Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas in a bad spot. They’re stuck in Nebraska, with no money to gas up their van, and they need to finish their trip to Aspen to return a briefcase to Mary Slippy Slappy Samsonite Swanson. The solution? Swap that van for a mini bike, and finish the trip!

It’s a scene that a lot of viewers could relate to. Only a highly skilled stuntman could film the Matrix getaway scene on the Ducati, but running out of gas and having no money? Highly relatable. Riding a crappy mini bike? Highly relatable. Thinking John Denver was full of s***? Highly relatable.

With that in mind, it’s no wonder that Zack Courts and Ari Henning have re-created the Dumb and Dumber mini bike trip (see the vid above). It’s just a wonder that it took so long for someone, anyone to do this.
